Caribbean dream

Years ago I had the good fortune to call the Caribbean my home – for a year I lived on Antigua and Barbuda with my family. Every day we lived and breathed beauty and adventure in a landscape that dreams are made of. The panorama that unfolded before us was alive with vibrant hibiscus, ebullient bourgainvillea and dazzling sandy beaches, a sky of indescribable blue above. We played in the swirls of the azure and turquoise ocean and laughed with the doves and water birds, whose calls I still remember.

The experiences I had in that year appear in my work again and again. I feel that now, especially, the vibrance and passion of the colorful islands give us energy and hope. The soothing tones of sand and limestone calm our senses and give us pause for a deep and cleansing breath. After a long year of learning to live with the restrictions of Covid-19, I am longing for those experiences and to once again absorb the vitality of the Caribbean. Of course, I can not – but my work can! An idea was born during a conversation with a dear friend who lives on the Cayman Islands. Plans were made and I shipped my newest, lightest, and most playful pieces to be photographed in the sun and the breeze of my beloved Caribbean. Looking at the result of the pictures I am infused with the joy and lightness of being there myself.

Dear reader, dare to dream about your next adventure, be it far away or close to home! Keep that vision, breathe it in, experience it, if only for a moment. That moment will lift you up and carry you, like silk on an island breeze.
